How to Avoid Unplanned Pregnancy When You Do Not Use Contraceptive Drugs
Many words come to mind: Brave; Fearless; Honest; Straightforward; Valuable; Easy to Understand; Essential Reading; Unbiased; Informative; Educational; Topical; and therefore, Recommended.
All of these terms are Positive, and they relate both to the author, Petya (Pett) Corby, and her chosen subject, How to Avoid Unplanned Pregnancy - UP. Actually, to my mind, it is also an overview of how to relate properly to a sexual partner in a mature and respectful manner. Why, however, should I claim that this is so Topical? Well, firstly; simply because most of the research now performed is implemented on behalf of the drugs and condoms manufacturers. These, are, of necessity, biased in the direction of advocating even greater usage of these methods. Yet, we continually read of scares relating to side-effects in some of these prophylactic methods.
Petya, has chosen a different , and therefore, more challenging route, but one which could inspire those readers who are in their own stage of highly fertile sexual activity, to use more natural methods which avoid the risks of such side effects and which, if implemented exactly as described, could be, statistically, even more effective at avoiding UP. Her message is widely directed to include men as well as women.
Secondly, it is Topical because we continually hear about the tragic cases in poorer countries and communities where babies are born to poor mothers, and who are already infected by HIV or AIDS, or are suffering from pre-natal drug addiction; or are simply alcoholic at the time of their birth. Death or Brain Damage are often the outcomes. Had these people been provided with the knowledge that Petya´s book contains, and been educated and encouraged to use the techniques described, a great many of these births would not have occurred. Furthermore, there would have been no costs expended on expensive birth-control drugs, since the methods themselves are free of cost, and much of the costs of caring for such tragic infants could have been avoided and used instead to good effect elsewhere in the medical services of the countries and communities concerned.
Dramatic though the foregoing paragraph is, there is an equally dramatic Third reason why this is Topical. The position in the USA is that it leads the developed world in having the highest proportion of UP, whilst the UK, perhaps because of the so-called "Special Relationship" with the USA, manages to emulate it by achieving the highest rate of UP within Europe. Since most of this relates to the younger age groups, a high proportion being within school age, it is a shameful fact that these countries fail to make sufficient inroads into what is, for both, a national disgrace, made even more difficult when the State also makes it easier for parents to be restricted in their abilities to monitor and advise their offspring to keep them safe, as one would think is their right, this being their primary duty in life.
It is to Petya´s credit that she is so highly motivated as an individual; and that she is also continuing with her Campaign to make this a Global Awareness issue, to the extent that she is now engaged on establishing her new Virtual Gigs company to promote such awareness and to ingather sufficient funds to permit her to make her publication available free into such communities as are willing to promote her message, not only to the parents of teenagers, but directly to those young women and men, of child-bearing age, who are, most significantly, at risk of experiencing the tragic outcomes I have referred to.
I am privileged to have been invited to act as the first Nominated Operations Director of the new Virtual Gigs Company, and I fully endorse both her message and her Campaign.
